CHA provides expert care for serious needs at our Cambridge Hospital and Everett Hospital. Most admissions come through the CHA Emergency Department or CHA Transfer Center.
Your Hospital Team
When you stay overnight at a CHA hospital, you get an expert team of doctors, nurses and other staff to care for you. CHA has two acute care community hospitals - in Cambridge and Everett, MA, and an inpatient Psychiatry center in Somerville, MA. These sites provide outstanding care for serious injuries and medical needs, including critical, life-threatening conditions and complex patients.
Medical/Surgical Care
On the Med/Surg floors your care team is typically led by a hospitalist, an expert in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine. Hospitalists are experts in meeting the needs of hospitalized patients. They are available 24 hours a day and can respond quickly to your health needs.
If you are recovering from surgery, your lead doctor in the hospital will be your surgeon.
Your hospital team will also include a care manager (nurse or social worker). Their job is to help you, your caregivers, and your primary care team make sure you have a good “discharge plan”. This means making sure you have support when you leave the hospital.
Because we are a teaching hospital, your team may also include doctors or students from Harvard or the Tufts University School of Medicine.
Critical & Intensive Care (ICU)
Our intensive care units at Cambridge Hospital and Everett Hospital are designed to care for people with severe health needs. We have 18 staffed beds across both sites - offering expert, 24-hour care.
Our ICU teams include Critical Care physicians and nurses, respiratory therapists, clinical nutritionists, pharmacy support and others. In addition to acute medical conditions, we care for critical patients before and after surgery.
New - CHA now offers Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy with CVVH-D at Everett Hospital. This continuous dialysis runs 24 hours a day and is used for patients in acute kidney failure because it is gentler on the body.
Inpatient Psychiatry
CHA is a leader in acute psychiatry care and offers services for all ages. This includes expert care for children and adolescents (Somerville) adults (Cambridge and Everett) and seniors (Everett). Learn more about our Psychiatry services.
