How to Schedule an Imaging Study
CHA patients who have an order for imaging - please call 617-665-1298.
External facilities/providers - please fax orders to 617-665-3265 with the following information:
> Authorization status and Prior Authorization number, start and end date
> Ordering Provider NPI, name, address, phone, and fax
> If no authorization is required, please document this on the order
Important: please tell us if you have any metal or electronic devices implanted in your body, as these may affect the image. You shouldn't have an MRI if you have a pacemaker, defibrillator or other implanted life-support equipment, as the MRI may interfere with their functioning. When you take the test, you will be asked to remove all jewelry and accessories, including hearing aids or dentures. You will need to wear clothing without metal parts.
About Your MRI
Getting an MRI is painless. During the procedure, you will need to lie still for 30-90 minutes in the machine, which looks like a hollow tube. The length of the test will depend on the part of your body being scanned and the type of test being done. You may need to be injected with a contrast fluid to help highlight a certain part of your body.
