The CHA Union Square Family Health center was profiled by the Harvard Business School in a case study in NEJM Catalyst, a leading health policy journal.
The article expands the concept developed by HBS professor Michael Porter on Integrated Practice Units, or IPUs, to primary care. Commonly used to describe costs associated with specific events in specialist care, such as a knee replacement operation, IPUs have demonstrated a paradigm shift in the analysis of health care costs. How this relates to primary care, has not been explored by the group until now, with this profile of the work done at CHA.
The article, co-authored by Kirsten Meisinger, MD, regional medical director at CHA, provides a summary of the innovative care structures at CHA and a prospective look at the direction CHA and the U.S. are heading in health care redesign.
