Cambridge Health Alliance Surgeon Receives Harvard Medical School Mentoring Award
Dr. Arundhati Ghosh is honored with the 2021 A. Clifford Barger Excellence in Mentoring Award.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Cambridge Health Alliance general surgeon Arundhati Ghosh, MD, is a 2021 recipient of the A. Clifford Barger Excellence in Mentoring Award from Harvard Medical School. The award recognizes the value of quality mentoring relationships and the impact they have on professional development and career advancement in clinical medicine, teaching, research and administration.
Each year, Harvard Medical School faculty members, house officers, fellows and students nominate mentors who have provided sponsorship and supported personal and professional development. Dr. Ghosh and other recipients of this year’s Mentoring Awards were celebrated during a virtual ceremony on June 8 hosted by the Office for Diversity Inclusion and Community Partnership at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Ghosh, an assistant professor of surgery at Harvard Medical School, serves as the surgery curriculum director for the HMS-Cambridge Integrated Clerkship (CIC) at CHA. She specializes in general and endocrine surgery, with clinical interests including gallbladder disease, thyroid and parathyroid, biliary disease, intestinal cancer, laparoscopic colectomy and diverticular disease. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, she is actively involved in resident instruction and mentoring.
In a nomination letter, one of Dr. Ghosh’s colleagues noted that she “is an inspirational and intentional role model and mentor to all HMS students and colleagues she encounters. Students report that Dr. Ghosh seamlessly eliminates the barriers of formality and hierarchy. Her mentoring style is described as ‘student-centered’ with constant mutual feedback and restructuring; it is threaded with reflective conversations.”
Dr. Ghosh attended medical school at Calcutta Medical College before completing a pediatric surgery residency at Children's National Medical Center and a general surgery residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She completed a pediatric trauma fellowship at New England Medical Center.
